Welcome! Right now, we’re racking our noggins to plan an amazing race for the Atchison community, in which we will honor the legacy of Mary Lea Johanning and the smart young Atchison women like her.  Our aim is to build awareness for Mary Lea’s Scholarship Fund and to build an annual event that can serve as a focal point for its fundraising.  For more information, please see “About the Mary Lea Johanning Scholarship” link above.  

Currently, the fund has just enough money to cover all committed awards plus next year’s scholarship recipient.  The proceeds from this race will be used to start an endowment for the fund, with the ultimate goal of raising enough to support this scholarship in perpetuity.  This scholarship is an annual, merit-based award for one Atchison High School woman.  

The event is a chance for people to come together - local and out of town, young and old, families and friends.  It’s a birthday party too! Mary Lea would have been 31 years old on the very day that this race will first be held.
